If you haven't been using FriendFeed yet, there is still time for you to catch up on the experience and get to know what attracted Facebook to it. The press release states that "FriendFeed.com will continue to operate normally for the time being as the teams determine the longer term plans for the product".
Bret Taylor, Paul Buchheit, Jim Norris and Sanjeev Singh, the founders of FriendFeed.com used to be part of Google and played key roles in the development of Gmail and Google Maps.
Facebook's founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, said, "As this shows, our culture continues to make Facebook a place where the best engineers come to build things quickly that lots of people will use."
Meanwhile, for being a social media site that showed gains from it's share of the market doing search these days according to comScore data, Facebook's acquisition of FriendFeed seems obviously an attempt in competing with Twitter's who is also trying to have a big slice in the field of search.
