Twitter released their “Lists” feature site-wide last week and we received ours on Thursday. The lists feature allows for a user to bundle like-minded Twitter users together and view their latest tweets in one stream. You can create a list for any reason and filter out their tweets from the your main Twitter stream, which is going to be useful in social media marketing if you’ve got a large number of people you’re following. But, what’s the best part? We’ve discovered that you don’t need to follow each user through your main account, so you can follower users who don’t show up in your main Twitter stream.Why are Twitter lists useful?
- The simplest reason is being able to organize those you’re following. This is great if you have got a huge list of followers because you can filter out their tweets through Lists.
- Twitter lists will prove easy to find other Twitters. We’ve found ourselves on a few lists, with topics ranging from search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM), social media marketing, and plenty of others. If the lists remain public, any user can subscribe to the list and receive all the tweets in a single stream. It’s useful for letting new users find relevant users to follow and help your Twitter account get exposed further.
- As we mentioned before, you can follow the list without following every user on it. If you prefer not to mix business with pleasure, you can keep your main stream personal. Or, maybe like us, you like having a good number of social media marketing and search engine optimization (SEO) users on your list, but want to avoid the constant barrage of tweets from them. Through lists, you can avoid having your main stream flooded by a user that tweets too often.
- Private lists that only you can see. If you’re a company engaging in social media marketing to promote you brand, so are your competitors. You can make a list of your competitors and follow their tweets, without them even knowing.
